Abstract The determination of hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) in bee honey is performed by the spectrophotometric methods Winkler's and White's. The Winkler method reads the absorbances in the visible region of the spectrum, and the White method measures in the ultraviolet (UV) and visible regions of the spectrum. This study aims to compare the spectrophotometric methodologies of White and Winkler to the determination of HMF in bee honey. For the study, it was used a UV-visible spectrophotometer, 10 mm optical path quartz cuvettes, and ten bee honey samples of different flowering. Absorbances at 550 nm were analyzed by the Winkler method; absorbances at 284 nm and 336 nm in the White method; and a comparison of HMF concentration (mg/kg) was carried out between the methods. The results showed significant differences (p<0.05) in HMF concentration determined by both methods. The main conclusion is that the Winkler method presents higher HMF values than the White method.

ABSTRACT: The present study investigated Salmonella spp. in the feces of 200 foals up to one year of age (100 with clinical signs of diarrhea and 100 without clinical signs of diarrhea). Bacteriological culture, serotyping, antimicrobial susceptibility, and real-time PCR (qPCR SYBR® Green or a TaqMan®) for detecting the invA gene (with and without a selective pre-enrichment step in tetrathionate broth) were performed. Bacterial culture revealed 15% (n=30) of positive animals (21 animals with diarrhea and nine without diarrhea). Among the 30 isolates, 13 different serovars were identified: S. Infantis, S. Minnesota, S. I.4,5,12:i:-; S. Anatum, S. Cerro, S. Oranienburg, S. Braenderup, S. Give, S. Newport, S. IIIb 61:c:z35, S. 109:-:1.5, S. I.4.12:d:-, S. I.6.8:-:-. Multidrug resistance was found in 43.33% (n=13) of the isolates, with one isolate obtained from animals without diarrhea and 12 isolates from animals with diarrhea. All qPCR techniques used in the study classified more samples as positive for Salmonella spp. than the bacterial culture of feces. In addition, all qPCR techniques detected more positive animals in the diarrhea group than in the diarrhea-free group. The results confirm the utility of the qPCR method without the pre-enrichment step in tetrathionate as a rapid test for Salmonella spp. in carrier animals. In animals with clinical signs of diarrhea, it can be combined with bacterial culture (antimicrobial susceptibility testing and serotyping). The isolation of Salmonella spp. in nine animals without diarrhea confirms the importance of asymptomatic carrier animals in the epidemiology of the disease. The multidrug resistance observed highlights the importance of rational antimicrobial use in horses and adopting biosecurity protocols that are efficacious in controlling the spread of infections between animals and zoonotic transmission in farms.

RESUMO: O presente estudo investigou a ocorrência de Salmonella spp. em fezes de 200 potros com até um ano de idade (100 com sinais clínicos de diarreia e 100 sem sinais clínicos de diarreia), utilizando as técnicas de cultivo bacteriológico e PCR em tempo real (qPCR) pelos métodos de corante fluorescente (SYBR® Green) e sonda específica (Taqman®) para a detecção do gene invA com e sem etapa de pré-enriquecimento seletivo em caldo de tetrationato. O cultivo bacteriológico revelou 15% (n=30) de animais positivos (21 animais com diarreia e nove animais sem diarreia). Dentre esses 30 isolados, 13 sorovares diferentes foram identificados: S. Infantis, S. Minnesota, S. I.4,5,12:i:-; S. Anatum, S. Cerro, S. Oranienburg, S. Braenderup, S. Give, S. Newport, S. IIIb 61:c:z35, S. 109:-:1.5, S. I.4.12:d:-, S. I.6.8:-:-. Multirresistência foi constatada em 43,33% (n=13) dos isolados, sendo um isolado obtido de animal sem diarreia e 12 isolados de animais com diarreia. Todas as técnicas de qPCR empregadas no estudo apresentaram maior número de amostras classificadas como positivas para Salmonella spp. comparadas ao cultivo bacteriológico de fezes. Adicionalmente, em todas as técnicas de qPCR houve maior número de animais detectados como positivos no grupo de animais com diarreia em relação aos animais sem diarreia. Os resultados confirmaram a utilidade do método qPCR sem a etapa de pré-enriquecimento em tetrationato, como um teste rápido para detecção de Salmonella spp. em animais portadores ou em animais com sinais clínicos de diarreia. O cultivo bacteriológico deve ser associado para a realização do teste de sensibilidade aos antimicrobianos e sorotipificação. O isolamento de Salmonella spp. em nove animais sem diarreia, confirma a importância dos animais portadores assintomáticos na epidemiologia da doença. A multirresistência observada evidencia a importância do uso racional de antimicrobianos em equinos e a importância da adoção de protocolos de biossegurança que sejam eficazes para controlar a disseminação de infecções entre animais e a transmissão zoonótica nas fazendas.

Abstract Probiotics can be defined as viable or inviable microbial cell (vegetative/spore or intact/ruptured) that is potentially healthful to the host. Commonly linked to fermented milk, one of the most popular fermented beverage, due to the greater consumer acceptance of dairy products. However, technical aspects such as inappropriate storage conditions and transport facilities can influence the viability of the microorganisms in these products. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the microbiological and physicochemical quality of probiotic fermented milk sold in the city of Botucatu/SP during its shelf life, and to determine the effect of different storage temperatures (4 °C and 12 °C), comparing results with the standard limits. For this purpose, four brands of probiotic fermented milk (A, B, C, and D) were analyzed counting lactic acid bacteria and evaluating physicochemical parameters (pH, acidity, proteins, lipids, moisture, and ash). As a result, only brand D did not fit the parameters determined by the technical norms of the Brazilian legislation; the variation in storage temperature, did not show significant influence on the results of the tested parameters.

RESUMO Introdução: O escalpelamento é caracterizado pelo trauma em região do couro cabeludo, que pode ser classificado como parcial ou total. O trauma por escalpelamento é extremamente mutilante e estigmatizante, principalmente quando expõe o osso sem periósteo, que pode levar a quadro de osteomielite crônica e erosão de tábua externa. Quando há lesões extensas de couro cabeludo acima de 200cm² e com lesão de periósteo é necessária grande quantidade de tecido com retalho microcirúrgico, que não está disponível em todos os centros. O objetivo deste trabalho é relatar caso de paciente de 69 anos, feminina, que sofreu trauma por avulsão total de couro cabeludo de grande extensão de 550cm² com exposição de calota craniana sem periósteo e inviabilização total do escalpe após mordida de cachorro. Devido à inviabilização total do escalpe avulsionado, optou-se pelo transplante de retalho livre de músculo grande dorsal com anastomose microvascular do pedículo toracodorsal com os vasos temporais superficiais. O retalho evoluiu com boa perfusão e na área cruenta foi realizado enxertia parcial. Métodos: Análise retrospectiva de prontuário da paciente em questão. O presente trabalho segue os padrões de declaração de Helsinque e aprovação do comitê de ética e pesquisa. Conclusão: O retalho livre de músculo grande dorsal mostrou-se eficaz neste caso de reconstrução de lesão extensa do couro cabeludo (550cm²) com lesão parcial de periósteo devido ao escalpelamento. O retalho recuperou a forma do crânio e a função de proteção da calota craniana.

ABSTRACT Introduction: Scalping is characterized by trauma in the scalp region, which can be classified as partial or total. Scalping trauma is extremely mutilating and stigmatizing, especially when exposing the bone without periosteum, leading to chronic osteomyelitis and external table erosion. When there are extensive scalp lesions above 200cm², and with periosteum, the lesion is required a large amount of tissue with microsurgical flap, which is not available in all centers. This work aims to report a case of a 69-year-old female patient who suffered trauma due to total avulsion of a big scalp of 550cm² with exposure of a skull cap without periosteum and total unviability of the scalp after a dog bite. Due to the total unviability of the avulsed scalp, we opted to transplant a large dorsal muscle free flap with microvascular anastomosis of the thoracodorsal pedicle with the superficial temporal vessels. The flap evolved with good perfusion, and partial grafting was performed in the bloody area. Methods: Retrospective analysis of the medical records of the patient in question. This paper follows the Declaration of Helsinki’s standards and the approval of the Ethics and Research Committee. Conclusion: The free flap of the large dorsal muscle proved effective in this case of reconstruction of the scalp’s extensive lesion (550cm²) with partial periosteum lesion due to scalping. The flap recovered the shape of the skull and the protective function of the skull cap.

RESUMO Introdução: A presença de defeitos extensos em couro cabeludo apresenta-se como um grande desafio reconstrutor para o cirurgião plástico. Estes defeitos têm vasta etiologia como: traumática, queimaduras térmicas ou elétricas, ressecções tumorais benignas e malignas ou congênitas, sequelas de tratamentos radioterápicos e infecções. Destacando-se lesões como o escalpelamento e queimaduras (térmicas ou elétricas), geram repercussões significativas como a perda de tecido grave, osteomielite crônica ou sequelas menores como uma alopecia cicatricial. O objetivo deste trabalho é relatar um caso de reconstrução de couro cabeludo em fase tardia com expansor tecidual e posterior retalho de avanço, devido à alopecia cicatricial, em paciente feminina de 11 anos vítima de escaldamento por água quente em região frontotemporal direita. Métodos: Foi realizada análise retrospectiva de prontuário da paciente em questão. O presente trabalho segue os padrões do comitê de ética de Helsinque. Conclusão: A técnica de expansão tecidual de couro cabeludo por estágios e posterior confecção de retalho de avanço de escalpo demonstrou ser eficaz de restaurar a estrutura pilosa e linha da implantação capilar da paciente com mínima distorção local, restituindo a forma e a estética do couro cabeludo da paciente.

ABSTRACT Introduction: The presence of extensive scalp defects is a major reconstructive challenge for the plastic surgeon. These defects have a vast etiology, such as traumatic, thermal or electrical burns, benign and malignant or congenital tumor resections, radiotherapy treatments sequelae, and infections. Noting that injuries such as scalping and burns (thermal or electrical), generate significant repercussions such as severe tissue loss, chronic osteomyelitis or minor sequelae such as scar alopecia. This study aims to report a case of late scalp reconstruction with a tissue expander and posterior advancement flap, due to cicatricial alopecia, in an 11-year-old female, victim of scalding by hot water in the right frontotemporal region. Methods: It was performed a retrospective analysis of the patient’s medical record. The present work follows the standards of the Helsinki ethics committee. Conclusion: The scalp tissue expansion technique by stages and subsequent scalp advancement flap performing proved to be effective in restoring the patient’s hair structure and hairline with minimal local distortion, restoring the scalp’s shape and aesthetics of the patient.

RESUMO: Este estudo teve como objetivo avaliar a qualidade higiênica sanitária e a presença de microrganismos patogênicos em carnes in natura e linguiças frescais comercializadas na cidade de Uruguaiana, Rio Grande do Sul (RS), Brasil. Foram analisadas 238 amostras de linguiças, carne bovina, suína e de frango de 18 estabelecimentos comerciais (açougues, supermercados e mercearias). As amostras foram submetidas à enumeração de microrganismos indicadores de higiene (aeróbios mesófilos e enterobactérias) e detecção de Salmonella spp. e Listeria monocytogenes. As contagens médias de aeróbios mesófilos e enterobactérias foram 5,09 e 3,54 log UFC/g, respectivamente. Salmonella spp. esteve presente mais frequentemente em amostras de carne bovina (4,91 %), enquanto L. monocytogenes foi mais frequente em linguiças frescais (19,04 %). Das amostras analisadas, 43,70 % não atenderam aos parâmetros microbiológicos estabelecidos pelo Ministério da Saúde. A presença de Salmonella spp. e L. monocytogenes em diferentes amostras e estabelecimentos comerciais demonstra falhas de boas práticas de fabricação na indústria e pontos de venda, além da necessidade de treinar manipuladores de alimentos para reduzir a exposição dos consumidores à riscos.

ABSTRACT: This study evaluated the sanitary hygienic quality and the presence of pathogenic microorganisms in raw meats and fresh sausages marketed in the city of Uruguaiana, Rio Grande do Sul (RS), Brazil. We analyzed 238 samples of fresh sausages, beef, pork, and chicken from 18 commercial establishments (butchers, supermarkets, and groceries). Samples were subjected to enumerate hygiene indicator microorganisms (mesophilic aerobes and enterobacteria) and detection of Salmonella spp. and Listeria monocytogenes. The mean counts of mesophilic aerobes and enterobacteria were 5.09 and 3.54 log CFU/g, respectively. Beef samples presented the highest frequency of Salmonella spp. (7.93%) and fresh sausages present the highest frequency of L. monocytogenes (19.04%). Among the analyzed samples, 43.70% did not comply with the microbiological parameters established by the Brazilian Ministry of Health. The presence of Salmonella spp. and L. monocytogenes in different samples and commercial establishments demonstrate the failures of good manufacturing practices in industrial environmental and retails points and the need to train food handlers to reduce the exposure of consumers to potential risks.

ABSTRACT Many infants are nurtured with milk supplied by human banks, whose bacteriological and physical-chemical profiles are a major issue. We investigated the bacteriological and physical-chemical characteristics, as well as genotypic and phenotypic and profiles of Staphylococcus species isolated from 240 samples of breast milk from a bank in a teaching hospital. Dornic acidity of milk revealed that 95.4% (229/240) had acceptable limits (< 8.0 oD). Caloric intake showed a wide variation in cream content (4%), fat (4%) and energy values (559.81 Kcal/L). Staphylococcus (105/186 or 56.5%) and Enterobacter (25/186 or 13.4%) were the most prevalent genera, although other microorganisms were identified, including Klebsiella pneumoniae and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Amoxicillin/clavulanic acid (125/157 or 79.6%), vancomycin (115/157 or 73.2%), and cephalexin (112/157 or 71.3%) were the most effective antimicrobials. High resistance rates of isolates were found to penicillin G (141/157 or 89.8%), ampicillin (135/157 or 86%), and oxacillin (118/157 or 75.2%). Multidrug resistance to ≥ 3 antimicrobials occurred in 66.2% (123/186) of the isolates. Residues of microbial multiplication inhibitory substances were found in 85% (204/240) of samples. Among the coagulase-positive-CPS and negative-CoNS staphylococci, the mecA gene was detected in 53.3% (8/15) and 75% (30/40), respectively. Genes sea, seb and sec were detected in 20% (3/15) of CPS, while tsst-1 was detected in 13.34% (2/15). In addition, 13.3% (2/15) of S. aureus were toxin-producers. Genes sea, seb and sec were detected in 90% (36/40), 5% (2/40) and 15% (6/40) CoNS, respectively. Enterotoxin production was identified in 5% (2/40) of CoNS. The identification of multidrug-resistant bacteria, staphylococci species toxin-producers harboring methicillin-resistance genes, and residues of microbial multiplication inhibitory substances reinforce the need for a continuous vigilance of milk quality offered to infant consumption by human banks.

ABSTRACT Introduction: The use of ear lobe extenders causes a circular defect whose closure becomes a challenge for the plastic surgeon. There are multiple techniques with mobilization of local flaps in an attempt to close and return to the natural shape of the lobe. We propose to present trichloroacetic acid (TCA) as an alternative for the correction of these lesions. Methods: A total of five patients with lesions by ear skin eyelets were selected, and 90% TCA was used to close the defects. Results: After applying the product, in the first days, there was a hyperemia around the area where the acid was applied. The frosting area was replaced by a crust, which loosened over the days, concomitantly reducing the diameter of the lesion with progressive closure of the defect. Conclusion: Although more studies are needed, the use of 90% TCA proved to be a simple and practical option for the closure of enlarged ear lobes.

RESUMO Introdução: O uso de alargadores de lóbulos de orelhas provoca um defeito circular cujo fechamento se torna um desafio para o cirurgião plástico. Existem múltiplas técnicas com mobilização de retalhos locais na tentativa de promover o fechamento e devolver o formato natural do lóbulo. Nossa proposta é apresentar o ácido tricloroacético (ATA) como alternativa para a correção dessas lesões. Métodos: Foram selecionados um total de 5 pacientes com lesões por alargadores nos lóbulos das orelhas e utilizado ATA 90% para o fechamento dos defeitos. Resultados: Após a aplicação do produto, observou-se uma hiperemia ao redor da área onde foi aplicado o ácido nos primeiros dias, a área de frosting foi substituída por uma crosta, que foi se soltando com o passar dos dias, concomitante a redução do diâmetro da lesão com fechamento progressivo do defeito. Conclusão: Apesar de mais estudos serem necessários, a utilização de ATA 90% se mostrou uma opção simples e eficaz para o fechamento de lóbulos de orelhas alargados.

ABSTRACT Solar energy as a form of electric power generation is gaining ground in Brazil, being the subject of worldwide discussions on sustainability. The electric energy, a right of all citizens, represents a consumption of natural resources on a large scale. State schools in Paraná invested more than R$ 46 million to guarantee electricity and thus provide essential running conditions to the system in 2016. Through open data, 15 schools from "Regional Administrativa do Cajuru", in Curitiba/PR, were evaluated in consumption and expenses of electric energy from January to May of 2017 and a solar photovoltaic system was dimensioned to supply the demand of each school. From that, it was estimated the total saving from the electricity that would no longer be spent on electricity which could be directed to other educational programs and projects of interest to the community towards sustainability within the school. The savings estimated totalized more than R$ 435 thousand annually.

Resumo A distribuição das espécies de Lucifer Thompson, 1829 (Decapoda: Luciferidae) no Giro Subtropical do Atlântico Sul foi avaliada pela Comissão Transatlântico Brasil I, entre novembro e dezembro de 2009. As amostras foram coletadas em 83 estações, em dois perfis entre o Brasil e África (20º e 30º Sul). Foram realizados arrastos oblíquos com rede cilindro-cônica, até 150 metros de profundidade. Observou-se uma relação sexual distinta entre as duas espécies encontradas. L. faxoni apresentou número de fêmeas significativamente maior em relação aos machos: 1:0.5 (X2 = 21,77, p = 0,0001), enquanto L. typus, teve proporção sexual de machos significativamente maior que de fêmeas: 1.86:1 (X2 = 50,84, p = 0,0001). A distribuição de L. typus variou entre as porções oeste e leste da cordilheira Mesoceânica. Essa distribuição esteve relacionada significativamente com a salinidade (R2 = 0.13; F(3.79); p = 0,009), mais elevada à oeste da área de estudo. No presente trabalho as duas espécies tiveram seus registros ampliados para o Giro Subtropical do Atlântico. De forma geral, os camarões luciferídeos foram mais frequentes e abundantes nas estações de coleta a oeste da Cordilheira Mesoceância, com L. typus sendo mais representativo tanto em abundância quanto em ocorrência.

Abstract The distribution of the species of Lucifer Thompson, 1829 (Decapoda: Luciferidae) in the South Atlantic Subtropical Gyre was assessed by the Brazil Transatlantic Commission in November and December 2009. The samples were collected at 83 stations on two profiles between Brazil and Africa (20 º and 30 ºS). Oblique hauls were performed with a WP-2 net up to 150 meters deep. A distinct sexual relationship was noted between the two species found and L. faxoni presented a significantly higher number of females relative to males 1:0.5 (X2 = 21.77, p = 0.0001). The L. typus sex ratio had significantly more males than females 1.86:1 (X2=50.84, p = 0.0001). The distribution of L. typus occurred in both the western and the eastern portions of the Mid-Oceanic Ridge. This distribution was significantly related to salinity (R2 = 0:13; F = 3.79, p = 0.009), which was higher in the western portion of the study area. In addition, the recordings of the two species were extended to the Atlantic Subtropical Gyre. Overall, Luciferidae shrimp were more common and abundant at the stations west of the Mid-Oceanic Ridge and L. typus was the most frequent and abundant species.

A linguiça frescal é um embutido curado que, devido à manipulação durante as etapas de produção, pode se tornar contaminado com S. aureus, patógeno frequentemente relacionado com práticas inadequadas de higiene durante a produção de alimentos. A utilização de nitrito em embutidos tem sua eficácia comprovada contra C. botulinum e, para o S. aureus, estudos indicam que a ação bactericida depende de fatores extrínsecos e intrínsecos. O objetivo do presente estudo foi avaliar o efeito da concentração de nitrito e do pH frente à contaminação por S. aureus e microbiota autóctone em linguiças frescais estocadas em diferente tempos e temperaturas. Linguiças foram produzidas com concentrações de 50, 150 e 200ppm de nitrito e contaminadas com S. aureus. As linguiças foram armazenadas sob refrigeração (7 e 12°C) e a quantificação de S. aureus e psicrotróficos foi realizada nos dias 0, 2, 4, 7 e 10. Os resultados demonstraram que a influência das concentrações de nitrito e temperaturas utilizadas sobre a multiplicação de S. aureus e da microbiota autóctone foi mínima, sendo dependente apenas do período de estocagem. Entretanto, ao final de dez dias, as contagens foram estatisticamente iguais nos grupos analisados, mostrando que as condições de temperatura e concentrações de nitrito utilizadas não exerceram controle efetivo no desenvolvimento destes micro-organismos. Sugere-se que este produto seja armazenado sob temperaturas inferiores a 7°C ou sob congelamento para maior estabilidade microbiológica

Fresh sausages are cured meat products that may be contaminated with Staphylococcus aureus during the manufacturing procedure, which is frequently related with inadequate handling practices. The use of nitrite in meat products has proven efficacy against Clostridium botulinum, and studies indicate that bactericidal action against S. aureus depends on factors that are intrinsic and extrinsic to the product. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the effect of nitrite concentration, and pH on S. aureus and psychrotrophic autochthone microbiota in fresh sausages stored at different times and temperatures. Fresh sausage were produced at nitrite concentrations 50, 150 and 200ppm and contaminated with S. aureus. The sausages were storage at refrigeration (7 and 12°C) and the quantification of S. aureus and psychrotrophic microorganisms was carried out on days 0, 2, 4, 7, and 10. Results showed that nitrite concentrations and the temperatures used had minimal effect on the multiplication of S. aureus and psychrotrophic autochthone microbiota. Final counts depended only on the length of storage: at the end of 10 days, counts were statistically similar in the different groups, showing that temperature and nitrite concentrations used did not control microbial growth effectively. It is suggested that the product should be stored below 7°C or at freezing temperatures for greater microbiological stability

A difusão do uso da tecnologia do resfriamento, como estratégia para manutenção das características microbiológicas e organolépticas do leite, não associada aos cuidados básicos de higiene na obtenção do produto, fez com que os micro-organismos psicrotróficos emergissem como as principais bactérias deteriorantes da indústria láctea. Este estudo teve por objetivo avaliar como o metabolismo psicrotrófico proteolítico responde a diferentes temperaturas de incubação do leite, delineando um paralelo entre multiplicação de psicrotróficos, quantidade de micro-organismos com capacidade de hidrolisar proteínas e quantidade de GMP (glicomacropeptídeo) liberada. As amostras de leite, coletadas diretamente do tanque de resfriamento, foram submetidas à contagem de micro-organismos psicrotróficos, contagem de micro-organismos proteolíticos e determinação da concentração de GMP, em diferentes tempos (12 h; 24 h; 48 h) e temperaturas (4°C; 8°C; 12°C) de armazenamento. Não houve linearidade entre os parâmetros microbiológicos e o GMP aferido, segundo o binômio tempo/temperatura. A maior concentração de GMP (5,07 µg/mL) foi aferida no binômio 8°C/24 h (T8/M24). Esses dados indicam a necessidade de estudos sobre o metabolismo da microbiota psicrotrófica, de forma a elucidar questões básicas e de profunda relevância sobre seu metabolismo.

The widespread use of cooling technology as a tool for maintaining the microbiological and organoleptic characteristics of milk, Without effective hygienic practices throughout the milk production, caused the psychrotrophic micro-organisms to become major deteriorative bacteria in the dairy industry. The present study aimed to assess how the proteolytic psychrotrophic metabolism responds to different milk storage temperatures, drawing a parallel among psychrotrophic growth, amount of micro-organisms capable of breaking down proteins and amount of GMP (glycomacropeptide) released. Milk samples were collected directly from the cooling tank and subjected to count of psychrotrophs, count of proteolytic micro-organisms and the concentration of GMP at different storage times and temperatures. There was no linearity between the microbiological parameters and the GMP measured, according to the time/temperature binomial. The highest concentration of GMP (5.07 mg/mL) was measured in the binomial 8°C/24h (T8/M24). The data make clear the need for further studies about questions involving the psychrotrophic microbiota in order to clarify extremely important basic questions about their metabolism.

INTRODUÇÃO: As nádegas são constituídas por músculos responsáveis pelos movimentos das pernas, assumindo o músculo glúteo máximo o volume principal. Possuem uma função secundária, de cunho sexual, como zona erógena, símbolo de fertilidade, cujo poder de atração é um forte apelo usado pela publicidade de artigos de consumo masculino. Mulheres com maior volume de nádegas despertam maior atração e desejo sexual, o que tem levado ao aumento da procura pela gluteoplastia de aumento com utilização de implantes de silicone. O objetivo deste trabalho é demonstrar a experiência dos autores com a técnica de gluteoplastia de aumento XYZ, comparando as taxas de complicação relacionadas ao procedimento entre dois grupos, gluteoplastia + lipoescultura de dorso e flancos vs. gluteoplastia isolada. MÉTODO: No total, 8 pacientes do sexo feminino foram submetidas a gluteoplastia de aumento pela técnica XYZ, no período entre julho e novembro de 2011. RESULTADOS: Foram utilizados 4 pares de implantes com volumes de 400 ml, 2 pares de 350 ml e 2 pares de 300 ml, todos do tipo Quartzo®. As pacientes foram divididas em dois grupos, com 4 integrantes cada. No grupo 1, a gluteoplastia foi associada a lipoaspiração de dorso e flancos; no grupo 2, não foi feita essa associação. A incidência total de seroma, necrose das bordas e deiscências das feridas foi de 50% (4 casos) cada. CONCLUSÕES: A gluteoplastia de aumento pela técnica XYZ com utilização de implantes de silicone tem produzido resultados naturais e de longa duração, com baixas taxas de complicação quando não se associa lipoaspiração.

BACKGROUND: The buttocks are formed by muscles responsible for leg movement, the largest being the gluteus maximus. Moreover, the buttocks have secondary sexual function: they are an erogenous area and a symbol of fertility, and are employed in advertising for male-oriented consumer products. Women with bigger buttocks arouse greater attraction and sexual desire, which has driven the demand for augmentation gluteoplasty with silicone implants. This study analyzed the authors' experience with the XYZ augmentation gluteoplasty technique by comparing the rates of complications related to the procedure between gluteoplasty + back and flank liposuction, and gluteoplasty alone. METHODS: A total of 8 women were subjected to XYZ augmentation gluteoplasty between July and November 2011. The patients were divided into 2 groups with 4 members each. In groups 1 and 2, gluteoplasty with and without liposuction of the back and flanks was performed, respectively. RESULTS: Four, 2, and 2 pairs of 400-, 350-, and 300-mL Quartzo® implants were used, respectively. The total incidence of seroma, necrosis of the edges, and wound dehiscence was 50% (4 cases in total) in both groups. CONCLUSIONS: XYZ augmentation gluteoplasty with silicone implants produces natural and long-lasting results with low complication rates when not combined with liposuction.

OBJETIVO: Identificar a relação entre adiponectina e parâmetros metabólicos em mulheres obesas mórbidas durante o emagrecimento por bypass gástrico. MÉTODOS: Dezenove magras (CT - IMC: 21,2 ± 0,3 kg/m²), 14 com sobrepeso/obesidade classe II (OB/OW - IMC: 29,7 ± 0,7 kg/m²) e oito obesas classe III (OBIII - IMC:56,4 ± 3,6 kg/m²) foram avaliadas pelo clamp euglicêmico-hiperinsulinêmico, adiponectina e lípides. OBIII submeteram-se aos mesmos testes no quinto e décimo-sexto mês pós-operatório. RESULTADOS: comparados a CT, os grupos obesos tiveram menor adiponectinemia (OB/OW: 9,4 ± 0,9, OBIII: 7,1 ± 1,3 versus 12,2 ± 0,9 ng/dL; p < 0,01), menor HDL-colesterol (OB/OW: 1,05 ± 0,05, OBIII: 0,88 ± 0,04 versus 1,22 ± 0,07 mmol/L; p < 0,01) e resistência insulínica - RI (captação de glicose, M - OB/OW:43,6 ± 2,7, OBIII:32,4 ± 3,2 versus 20,0 ± 1,8 umol/kgFFM.min; p < 0,001). Analisando todos os voluntários: adiponectina correlacionou-se negativamente com IMC, circunferência da cintura e positivamente ao M-clamp e HDL-colesterol (p < 0,01). No emagrecimento, houve melhora da RI (Estudo III:36,1 ± 3,9 umol/kgFFM.min, p < 0,0001), adiponectina (11,8 ± 1,4 ng/dL, p = 0,006) e HDL-colesterol (1,10 ± 0,04 mmol/L, p = 0,007). Aumentos do HDL-colesterol foram significativa e independentemente relacionados às variações da adiponectina e IMC (r² = 0,86; p < 0,0002). CONCLUSÕES: A melhora da RI e adiponectina no emagrecimento induzido por bypass gástrico sugerem um importante papel da adiponectina na regulação do HDL-colesterol.

OBJECTIVE: To assess the relationship between adiponectin and metabolic parameters in severely obese women during surgical-induced weight loss. METHODS: Nineteen lean (CT - BMI:21.2 ± 0.3 kg.m²), 14 overweight/class II obese (OB/OW - BMI: 29.7 ± 0.7 kg/m²) and 8 morbidly obese (OBIII - BMI: 56.4 ± 3.6 kg/m²) were evaluated by hyperinsulinemic-euglycemic clamp, adiponectin, and lipids. OBIII were evaluated at 5th and 16th month post-operatively. RESULTS: Compared to lean, obese groups had lower adiponectin (OB/OW: 9.4 ± 0.9, OBIII: 7.1 ± 1.3 versus 12.2 ± 0.9 ng/dL; p < 0.01), lower HDL-cholesterol (OB/OW:1.05 ± 0.05, OBIII: 0.88 ± 0.04 versus 1.22 ± 0.07 mmol/L; p < 0.01) and insulin resistance-IR (glucose uptake, M-value - OB/OW: 43.6 ± 2.7, OBIII: 32.4 ± 3.2 versus 20.0 ± 1.8 umol/kgFFM.min; p < 0.001). Considering all subjects, adiponectin levels were inversely correlated to BMI and waist circumference, and directly to M-value and HDL-cholesterol (p < 0.01). During weight loss, improvements in IR (Study III: 36.1 ± 3.9 umol/kg/FFM.min, p < 0.0001), adiponectin (11.8 ± 1.4 ng/dL, p = 0.006) and HDL-cholesterol were observed (1.10 ± 0.04 mmol/L, p = 0.007). Moreover, HDL-cholesterol improvement was significantly and independently related to variations of adiponectin and BMI (r² = 0.86; p < 0.0002). CONCLUSIONS: The improvements of IR and adiponectin were related to surgical-induced weight loss, suggesting an important role of adiponectin in HDL-cholesterol regulation.
